Herakles
A revival of Herkules, originally issued by Haas Foundry in 1899. The original design could be described as Art-Nouveau-ish, and is in the same “group” as other similarly eccentric types like Hobo (or Hobeaux, the better revival by James Edmondson), but features an even more extreme weight distribution with most of the weight sitting on the baseline. This effect gives it a delightful punchy character, tempered by it’s soft curves everywhere else.
While clearly not for long passages of text (although, why not?) — Herakles is an instant logo-maker. Any short words set in this scream “fireee” from the get go. Don’t believe us? Try it yourself.
As a revival, no big changes have been added other than the usual bells and whistles: we’ve expanded the character set, redrawn all the characters from scratch using high resolution images gathered online and filling in the gaps with type design know-how. We’re still working on adding extended language support (like Vietnamese) but it’s got a much better glyphs than other digitizations out there. One single weight. Available upon request.
